
Summer School ‘polyvagal theory’
This summer you will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop with dr. Amber Elizabeth Gray, creator of Restorative Movement Psychotherapy and Polyvagal-informed Somatic and body-orientated (psycho) therapies.
This training is exclusive in Belgium and has been specially developed for (body orientated psycho-)therapists, dance/movement therapists, somatic coaches, medical doctors, people who work with trauma, human rights, mental health conditions, teachers, psychotherapists, etc.

This training is exclusive in Belgium and has been specially developed for body orientated psycho-therapists, dance/ movement therapists, somatic coaches, medical doctors, creative arts therapists, people who work with trauma, human rights, mental health conditions, teachers, psychotherapists, bodyworkers, etc.
Over our three days together, the workshop will explore how body-based psychotherapeutic interventions serve as sources of communication, creative expression and create pathways to social engagement, especially with those who have survived trauma.
Polyvagal-informed Somatic & Dance/Movement Therapy is innovated by Dr. Amber Gray through her 25 years immersion in Polyvagal Theory and work with refugees and survivors of human rights abuses, oppression and Historical trauma.
Participants will explore this somatic and movement-based approach to treatment and will learn practical strategies to use in clinical intervention that will build awareness of physiological state shifts through music, movement, breath, rhythm, dance and play.
- Gain a better understanding of Polyvagal theory and its application in somatic psychotherapies
- Learn basic tenets of Polyvagal-informed Somatic & Dance/Movement Therapy, such as Reciprocal Alliance, Core Rhythmicity and State-shifting
- Explore non-verbal expression and somatic approaches to understand, reflect and expand how this promotes socialization and communication
- Gain insight into the neurophysiology of relative safety
- Learn the Primary Portals to the Body
- Understand the connection between compassion,
- relative safety and Reciprocal Alliance
- Integrate this work into mental health and psychosocial approaches with our refugee communities

Dr. Amber Elizabeth L. Gray is a Dance/Movement Therapist, Somatic & Human Rights Psychotherapist; yoga, Continuum and Gyrotonic® teacher/trainer who works with survivors of war, torture, human rights abuses and historical trauma and oppression, in the US and in active and post conflict zones, refugee camps, and disasters. Equally activist, artist, advocate, author and therapist, her clinical, healing, educational and organizational work endeavors to promote reciprocity and empowerment and incite meaningful change. She brings her Polyvagal, Heart & Spirit-informed Right to Embody somatic human rights framework and Body of Change eco-somatic regenerative retreats to communities of therapists, artists, global citizens and change makers world-wide. Amber originated Polyvagal-informed Somatic & Dance/Movement Therapy through 25 years immersive mentoring and exploration of Polyvagal Theory. This work is a survivor-centered, multi-cultural & social justice framework that reflects many years of grounded theory co-inquiry with her clients to understand how Polyvagal Theory promotes restoration and healing in the body-heart-mind-spirit for survivors of egregious human rights violations. She has been teaching this work globally since 2003 and publishes about it frequently. Her book, Polyvagal-informed Somatic Psychotherapies for Trauma: Roots, Rhythm, Reciprocity & Clinical Work is scheduled to be published by Norton in 2024.
